This is a pretty neat little radio.
The first thing I did was peel off the goofy ETM sticker in the lower left face of the thing, but this ETM is awesome.
It scans the entire SW band and puts all active stations into memory.
Then you just spin the tuning knob and it wheels through the memory.
It needs CW and SSB but this thing is pretty neat, especially for folks that don't want to futz around searching the bands.
Stereo speakers,SW LW MW FM, Recharges via USB, 2 alarms, thermometer, line input and 5 IF filter settings.
The PL 398 is the same price and has MP3
The new pl 600 is the shizzle its just a great radio, but this ETMS on the pl 390 is way useful.
I used to have to do pan scans in segments on expensive radios to see who was on air.
With ETMS it scans the entire SW spectrum and stores all active signals
SW Ping
How much is it?
$65
What is etms? I’ve got a couple of those hand crank emergency SW/AM/FM receivers. One of them also has the GMRS/FRS transmitter in it. But I’m not familiar with etms.
Thanks.
Old Ham bump
Easy Tuning Method.
It impressed me.
It takes about 2.5 minutes to scan the entire spectrum on SW.
Takes like 30 seconds on AM or FM
Gotta have my CW. Sure, I have to crank the volume and run it through a processor and shift it into my frequency range, but I want to hear it.
I do pretty well with morse code for an old deaf guy. ;)

Good AM reception? Love my Super Radio but size and analog.
I don’t know why I added the “S” LOL
Easy tuning method system?
Still it’s pretty cool and saves a lot of time, but it ignore CW and SSB which is where I spend most my time on the SW bands
That’s the nice thing about morse...if you have to you can change frequency or convert to blinking light or vibration.
Would be better than thumb-typing for sending text messages on cellphones IMO.
The AM reception is excellent. That’s the main reason I bought it.
It has a big ol ferrite core antenna
SW performance is good.
FM seems a bit weak, bit I haven’t really put it through the paces yet
Use a DSP to shift it into the notch filter my hearing has become, and I'm right there on it.

Whats great about this thing is that ETM and the chip that bases this thing are American.

The chinese have done a good job with this ting but for everyone they sell an American designer gets a dollar LOL
I’m. Or much of a radio head. But I guess I should learn. One more skill and all that. The only SSB I have is on my Midland CB. Yea, I still own a CB radio.
Your wise to keep your CB
LOL! I always laugh about that! People act like texting is a technological marvel.
I’m always like, “folks that’s one step beyond telegraph” and you’re paying a premium for it!!??
The trick I use is to watch the light and automatically hear a tone in my mind when the light is on. Sounds odd but is easy to do.
Hilarious!
