Henry Bemis ... Time Enough At Last

"No, a bunker will not save you from the apocalypse"

Bummer ... I'm going to go read my books!

Those photos are from the best Twilight Zone episode ever filmed, IMHO.

I may not survive but it won't be from not trying.
I'll go down fighting.

If the apocalypse is a financial apocalypse a bunker will be almost useless. Think about it, all your savings, worthless, the government paying it’s employees in worthless paper, a loaf of bread > $1000.00. What will you do? The power would be off, same with the food supplies. All civilized government breaks down. That’s the doomsday that this regime’s policies are bringing about.

What if it is a supermegaCarrington event unlike anything in recorded history?

http://iceagenow.info/2012/06/catastrophic-termination-ice-age-video/
“Trying to survive a cataclysm from above, literally fire coming down.”

“Solar activity / instability at present is the highest it has been since the end of the last ice age,”* says geologist Robert Schoch, Ph.D., in this startling video from thunderbolts.info

“A major solar outburst could end an ice age, incinerate the surface of the Earth (leaving only large stone structures remaining). create deluges of Biblical proportions as plasma would evaporate water and ice which would later be re-precipitate, and the cataclysm would force survivors to seek shelter in thick stone buildings, caves, and underground,” says Schoch.

From the Christian’s New Testament Bible:

2 Peter 3:10

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.”

11 “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.”

If your bunker (or cave) was deep enough underground you might be able to survive. Just how deep you’d have to be is something I’d like to know.

You don't have to make it impossible to break into your shelter, just harder than getting access to someone else's resources. It's the same as the door locks on my home. I have picked my door locks (kids - oops), but I still lock my doors when I'm gone. Most criminals are lazy and would rather walk through an unlocked door than learn a real skill like picking locks. A series of assaults by other survivors? Not likely. Most zombies would rather go after urban apartment dwellers than try metal detectors to search for a bunker, or use explosives to break through reinforced concrete. Note: I don't have a bunker, but I think their value is being dismissed based on an inappropriate comparison.

As for surviving after SHTF, I feel sorry for those who would give up like this author implies. I intend to survive with my family, and I expect many friends in my area to survive too. Life is a beautiful gift from God, and I have no interest in throwing it away until He chooses to take it back.

The author has an awful lot of difficulty with plurals for such a purportedly learned individual.

I don’t have a “bunker” myself, but wouldn’t begrudge someone who did. What with all these potential bunker failure scenarios listed in such great detail, one might get the impression that the learned author believes such scenarios won’t befall those without one.

What’s the old saying, “you makes your bets and you takes your chances.”

All this reminds me of a great movie, “Blast From the Past’ (1997) with Sissy Spacek, Christopher Walken
Brendan Fraser, and Alicia Silverstone.
It’s a LOL comedy about a naive man, Brendan Fraser, who has been brought up with a 60’s lifestyle (in an underground shelter with only his parents) for 35 years and suddenly finds himself in the virtually alien civilisation of the late 90’s.
Anybody see it?

would you really want to spend a year or more of your life trapped underground in an isolated community, cut off from whatever remains of the human race outside?

Heck, I could do that now. This guy singlehandedly makes me want to survive any apocalypse just to poke him in the eye.

One of my favorite lines from “Gladiator”: “Stick together! If we stick together, we will survive!” That's the key. The “lone wolf” survivor alone in his bunker or distant isolated redoubt will inevitably be outnumbered, overrun and defeated by marauding bands. The European landscape is littered with the remnants of broken castles and shattered defenses, going back for centuries. Defense and isolationism is not a winning strategy. Form communities of like minded people. Share skill sets. Form alliances. Establish craftmens guilds. That's how you survive.

It will be God, we just have to have faith.

Prophesied now and you see from the past.

~ ~ ~

January 13, 2004
Jesus said: “My people, crime levels in your cities are
rising again mostly because of drug trafficking. As people are
making less on lower paying jobs, personal budgets are becoming
strained for the bare necessities. Others, that are getting
assistance, are finding it harder to get funding as governments
are cutting back on health care and rent subsidies. As people
find it hard to survive, they resort to stealing for food and
even fuel to keep warm. As the one world people come closer to
controlling buying and selling by chips in smart cards and in
the body, there is another threat to My faithful to be outlaws
for not taking these chips, nor going along with the one world
order. My remnant will be suffering persecution when they try
to force chips in the body on everyone. Rely on what you have
set aside for a while. Then you will have to go to My refuges
for safety from being imprisoned in detention centers for your
faith. The one world people will say you are violating their
laws because you are storing food and avoiding chips. Fear not
these evil ones and trust and hope only in what I will provide
for you.”

When you see these thing happen, In the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ, call on your guardian angel to guide you and your family to the nearest refuge. Some of them will be caves. All in God’s Will, there will be martyrs for the faith.

Thursday, May 3, 2012: (Sts. Philip & James)
Jesus said: “My people, at times you receive CRITICISM for talking about refuges where some say they are not in the Bible. At this point in time in non-communist countries you are not openly persecuted to the point of martyrdom for your faith. Yet in the Early Church, Christians were being martyred, so that they practiced their faith secretly in the catacombs. Even the prophets were threatened with death because the people did not want to hear the prophet’s words of repentance for their sins. As a result Elijah hid in a cave at Mt. Carmel in Haifa, Israel to avoid being killed. As in this vision, I even told you that where necessary, My angels would carve out caves for your safe havens. I am giving you a message of hope during the tribulation that My angels will protect you at My refuges by making you invisible to your persecutors. You will have to leave your homes, if THEY ARE NOT refuges, so you can be led by your guardian angels to your safe havens. I will provide for your food and shelter, and My angels will defend you from the evil ones.”

FRiends, an apocalypse will never leave us without gub’mint. If history teaches anything, it is that people will take any form of control over chaos. The EOTWAWKI basic script is rooted in Hollywood movies starring the lone man v. the hordes of evil doers. Police will obey whomever feeds them and their families. The military may fragment, but our beloved leader is busy loading it with street scum and they will serve their master. The apocalypse window after any event will be fairly brief with the exception of a nuclear erasure of the east coast.

You want coverage? Try Proverbs 3: 5,6.

People don’t prepare for the same levels of disaster to survive. While many plans get you short of an apocaplyse, that still doesn’t mean they are useless. It be great to have enough security and food to handle a short to medium disruption in their region or nationwide, which are a lot more likely than a huge mega-event that perhaps only happens once, ever.
