Lesson of the day, even if you have diplomatic immunity it would probably be best if you paid your hotel bill before trying to skip out in the middle of the night, especially when that bill is $7.5 million and you cant exactly sneak away with a 60 person entourage.
That was exactly what happened in December at a luxury hotel in Paris when Saudi Princess Maha al-Sudani (ex to Crown Prince Nayef ben Abdel Aziz) tried to leave the Shangri-La without paying her massively huge bill.
The Saudi princess racked up her bill after taking over a 41-room floor at the hotel. Apparently she tried to leave at 3:30am when hotel staff realized she had not paid her bill, eventually police were called as dozens of bags of luggage were loaded in multiple limousines.
Princess Maha al-Sudani does have diplomatic immunity which means she could not be arrested however she paid her hotel bill and went on her way.
When the hotel in question was contacted by the AFP a manager on duty said they had no problems with clients, and no unpaid bills.
This is not the first time the Saudi princess has been in trouble over financial mistakes, King Abdallah grounded her inside one of his palaces for two years after she ran up massive spending bills in 2009. Eventually she was given refuge in a hotel owned by the emir of Qatar.
With billions of dollars at their disposal it is still not clear if $7.5 million is going to land her in hot water with the Saudi King for a second time.

Who does she think she is; Michelle Obama?
Just wish Michelle was as frugal as this princess.
So how does she have diplomatic immunity? Embassy job or embassy wife?
Or is it just being a Saudi royal? There are thousands of those people, do they have immunity everywhere they go?
Maybe she could be Prince Charles’ next wife.
Well that's exactly how you don't do it.
Walk right through the lobby in pairs in the middle of the afternoon.
Makes the $48 hooker bill seem pretty lame
“Walk right through the lobby in pairs in the middle of the afternoon.”
And don’t take the luggage with you. After saving $7.5 million, she could have bought replacement luggage later.
When you come right down to it, those former camel herders aren’t too smart.
“...I don’t care too much for money, money can’t buy me love!!....”
They successfully played that card after 9/11 to become the only civilian plane flying in the US while other air traffic was totally shut down. Why wouldn't it work to skip on a hotel bill? I guess the missing element this time was not having a complacent, compromised government CEO to bamboozle...
I lived in Asia for a rather long period. Have heard many such stories from friends in hotel and other businesses.
the most obnoxious were the rich M.E. young men, who always seemed to travel in wolf-packs, especially at the better night-clubs, and behave very badly, especially towards young women.
NaaaH... Guilty. Needs to get rid of the glasses, the moles, and the stink. And the attitude.
It's going to get interesting in Saudi over the next few years as the elders die, due to Islamic inheritance laws. The Saudi royals tend to have lots of offspring. When daddy dies, his fortune gets distributed among his heirs according to a formula in the Quran (males get more than females, etc).
All the players who were on allowance at that point have lots of money to spend on playing around. They will want to enjoy Daddy's lifestyle, using their fraction of Daddy's wealth, which means they will start spending their capital rather than living on interest.
The situation comes from the Saudis using their money to bankroll radical Islam across the world. Are the offspring going to continue the monthly payments to Muslim Brotherhood and the radical madrassahs? Maybe not. Lots of al Queda-types then get very irate.

Who? Mooch? Or the princess?
