I was not clear. None of the process, claimed or otherwise, use oxygen or air to create the hydrocarbon reservoir.

Scientists have supposedly determined that a VERY large quantity of Really Deep reservoirs (and Really Large reservoirs) are created deep in the earth's core and they can't really determine the exact process but it is other than that created from decay materials derived from living plants.
It has been noted that what they are just now discovering deep (really, really) deep down is about as pure as refined oil and not the sludge that we are used to pulling out of the earth 0-1-2 miles down.
Because nobody is absolutely sure how it forms they don't reference or try and make sweeping statements about this new (LARGE)(MASSIVE) source(s) of superfine oil down 4 - 5 and 5 plus miles deep.
We will have to wait until someone finds a good technique to extract this oil safely and then analyze it's makeup to determine just how it formed in the first place.
They know it exists.
They don't know how to safely get at it.

BUT
They have small samples and it appears to be almost pure oil which would require minimal refining to convert to gasoline.
We will just have to wait and see.
