I don’t believe the number is that high to begin with. There are a LOT of people who believe in the more Libertarian version of “pro-choice” meaning they can control their bodies. If you actually asked these people honest questions in the poll such as, “Do you support the aborting of a foetus in the third trimester?” or “Do you support the aborting of a foetus after an ultrasound shows a heartbeat?” then the numbers would likely plummet into the abyss.
There’s a very devious campaign of word-play at work making it hard to discern intent, and the lesser-brained Americans tend to be cowed into thinking that “pro-choice” means they can choose and “pro-life” means they have no choice but to give birth to the child. When forced to choose between the two, most people will respond by saying they don’t want to be forced into anything.
FWIW, I’m ardently pro-life, so don’t flame me for my observation.
While I appreciate your follow-up post, I see nothing in the Gallup story on which to base any of your views.
Look at the long-term chart at the article.
CLEARLY the trend is pro-life. It’s not a fluke, or a statistical trick like global warming.
We’re winning.
Alas, I repeat myself...
