It wasn't quite raining cats and dogs in Los Banos, but Elaine Bouschard and her grandson, Taylor Callaway, say it was a miracle when they saw this tiny dog fall from the sky. Callaway explained, “All of a sudden I saw this little puppy laying there, he was almost dead.”
“Right here is where Taylor started yelling that he saw the puppy. I looked up and the hawk was just flying right here, circling around and at that point, we all just went to the puppy,” added Bouschard. “My thought is that when god drops a puppy from the sky, you keep it,” expressed Bouschard.
She thinks the hawk may have grabbed the puppy from a junkyard because he was greasy when they found him. “If you look here, there's three little clutch marks, right here and when he hit the ground he bounced,” she explained.
She plans to add the miracle puppy to her mix of cats, dogs, horses and yes, she even owns a couple of hawks. She said, “I actually think God just dropped me a baby to have for Mother's day, so this is my baby for Mothers Day!”
Bouschard's still trying to figure out why the hawk decided to release the puppy from it's clutches. “He is so wiggly and his nose, he's a bulldozer, I could see him wiggling right out of the talons of it,” she said.
It's a gift from the sky she's decided to name "TJ Heavenly."
“How cool is this? Okay, again, pennies from heaven, puppies from heaven," expressed Bouschard. Bouschard has since given TJ Heavenly medicine and plenty of food. She's assuming he's about eight weeks old because he opened his eyes for the first time, Tuesday.
I hear tell that one shoots high, they fly next door, then die. Saves the trouble of sneaking to their trash can later that night.

PS...I like Owls better than toy dogs as rule when it comes to shooting a bird of prey

my chinkapin is a state record and 400 years old and migrating owls roost there in the summer nights by the scores

Raptors and carrion-eating birds have their places in God’s plan.
It’s horrifying when they take pets, but they do prey on a lot of vermin and keep dead things from stinking up the place.
Thirty years ago, Hubby and I had a friend who lived in heavily wooded Topanga Canyon in California. His gal pal had a cat that she couldn’t take with her when she moved away. The cat’s name was “Bushes” because she found it in some bushes and adopted it.
Our friend took the cat and kept good care of her until an owl (an OWL!!) swooped down one early evening and spirited her away.
Not wanting to upset his good friend, he would always tell her when they spoke how well Bushes was doing, her litters of kittens, her antics, etc., until she “died.”
True friendship!
Apropos of nothing, this man was the spitting image of Kenny Rogers. You could not tell them apart. And he never tried to impersonate him, either! (referring to a person who did impersonate Rogers to get free stuff at some big hotel back then - I forget the details - It’s been a long time)
We adopted a 9 y.o. Aussie mix last year, wonderful dog, not much of a barker once he realizes what belongs in the neighborhood and what doesn’t, except for hawks. When he sees a hawk soaring overhead, he barks his head off. Since he came from a rural community, we figure one of his jobs was to alert his previous owner of potential hazards to the flock.
My sister has two JRTs, Wyatt and Belle Starr.

Where did you get your q-beam? I had never heard of it so looked it up and now think it’s a must-have for people who live in the woods.
Horrible creatures..I’d shoot them all if it didn’t mean landing in jail.

I tell my neighbors dog ( 85 lb Lab ) that it would take an entire squadron of birds to carry her off and they would probably have to call for extra help to do it.
I remember back in ‘73-’74 while striper fishing out of the west side camping area of the O’Neill Forebay in Los Banos, some middle-aged bimbo let her little shit-dog loose to run around and a golden eagle snatched the little bastard and took him to her nest on top of the high voltage tower nearby to feed to her chicks. The bimbo raised holy hell with the park ranger, demanding that he shoot the eagle because of it...we good ole boys silently chuckled ‘cause that little mutt was finally quiet for a change! She’ll keep the next one inside!
