There's where you blew it. They are not well meaning, loving, compassionate or any other sweet sounding adjective. They hate our individual freedoms. Self reliant people bring out the worst in them because we refuse to be 'controlled' to a point where we cannot take a deep breath. Start over and learn that there is actually Americans who hate our style of government. Look at all the people who are for the freedom crushing tactics of Agenda 21. Well, I see that is where you and many others blow it. Many leftists do indeed have a well meaning agenda to equalize and help people. The problem we all know is that is is the wrong way to help. Obama is one such brainwashed leader and to see him as just trash or an overtly evil man is really making it harder to not resent him and stand up boldly to him and his type.

Now of course there are the overtly evil , people controlling types like Soros who live off of others being controlled. However, most are socialist mind controlled dupes.
