MARBLEHEAD, Mass. -- It's still OK to use leaf blowers in Marblehead.
Town Meeting members on Tuesday voted 285-211 to defeat a partial ban on the yard maintenance devices.
Christopher Bergonzi had at first proposed a complete ban on leaf blowers, saying their emissions were a public health risk. He compared leaf blower emissions to second-hand smoke.
But he later amended that, proposing a ban on gas-powered leaf blowers between May 15 and Sept. 15, while still allowing the use of battery-powered and electric leaf blowers.
The Daily Item reports that resident Edward Friedman questioned Bergonzi's scientific research and said leaf blowers are hardly used between May 15 and Sept. 15 anyway, making the article irrelevant.
Ah the whine of Mexican bagpipes.
Betcha the power for them comes from a coal plant.
Take your whole Lib town back to the Stone Age, Chris.
There’s a coal plant in the next city from them, but due to shut down...

>>Salem Harbor Power Station scheduled to close by June 2014
May 12, 2011|By Sean Teehan, Globe Correspondent
The owners of the coal- and oil-fired Salem Harbor Power Station announced yesterday they will shutter the plant within three years because environmental regulations and facility upgrades make the plant too costly to operate.
The announcement by Dominion Resources Inc. comes one day after the private overseer of the regions power network declared that there would be enough energy available even during peak periods if Dominion closed two of the four boilers at the massive 747-megawatt plant. Dominion now says it will close all four boilers by June 2014.
Some Salem residents and officials bemoaned the loss of a business that pays more than $4 million in taxes each year and provides about 150 jobs. But environmentalists said it was a signal New England is moving toward cleaner energy.
This apparatchik is a technical moron...
The hot new 2 stroke, yes I said 2 Stroke is the Huskavarna and Stihl products with their clever and patented "X Torq" Technology. They have a grooved piston and dual throat carb that sends an airstream into the combusion chamber as the exhaust is exiting and before fuel sneaks out, very very clever....
It makes it almost as good as a Direct Injected 2 stroke, and almost as clean as 4 strokes with much better fuel economy...
Check out the videos of it on you tube, but an image for now...
On a 2 stroke what lubricates the main bearing? I’ve always wondered how it gets cooled/lubed. Seems like friction on the main bearing would be a problem.
If Bergonzi wants to ban leaf blowers, he should move to Conchwhored where they banned them as well as single serving water bottles and want to put cats on leashes. A second choice will be Whorevyard where they are considering doing the same sorts of things while picking the federal taxpayers’ wallets to preserve their view of the Nashua River valley.
Put cats on leashes?!?
Somebody's going to get injured, injured bad!
Incrementalism. First they ban them for the summer then just figure, "what the hell", and ban them year round next year.
