Yeah, did that in 76 and gave Carter two votes. The one I didn’t give Ford and the one I gave Carter. Worst decision of my life. There were many of us absolutely furious with the GOP-E because they froze out Reagan. Ours was a protest/vengeance vote, ALMOST RUINED THE COUNTRY. Sometimes one has to put statesmanship and one’s love of country above one’s personal feelings.
I would not purport to tell you what to do, I am a Palin/Gingrich/Santorum supporter. I can only share the deep regret I still hold for turning Jimmy Carter loose on America. I could not even begin to fathom the buyer’s remorse that will come to a conservative that loves his country and then supports Barak Obama.
I still am not sure whether I can pull the handle for Romney or will just undervote (none of the above)-GOP loses one vote, Dems gain nothing; a vote for Obama is a two vote swing.
Think about it, I am praying for all of us conservatives and fully understand JR’s statesmanlike stance. In the end we must all do what is best for the nation - right now I am hoping for a brokered convention to allow us to vote for Romney with a better conscience.
A brokered convention would probably leave us with Romney but not without some national party plank concessions from Romney to the conservative wing of the party; this would allow us to hold him accountable especially if we can take the senate. Romney’s ego would force him to govern right of center to ensure reelection. With this I could vote for Romney (still holding my nose) knowing we will continue to add conservitives down ticket in the midterms. This would also set the stage for a true conservative presidential candidate for the next twenty years or more.
Every decision has a cost, some costs are too dear to pay (Carter). Good luck with your decision.
