t was tempting to continue the Mark Davis update theme with this post, but that wouldn't really be fair to Ben Ferguson, who has been named permanent host of the 9-11 a.m. slot that Davis held for years on WBAP/820 AM.
Ferguson has been filling that slot for the more than a month since Davis left the WBAP airwaves in an apparent contract dispute. Although the release announcing Ferguson's permanent gig doesn't say so explicitly, it's official: this is the end of the line for Davis and WBAP, where he worked for 18 years. Davis has noted that his issue is not with the station but with its owner, Cumulus Media. (No sooner did I type that than I got a curt "yes" from a Cumulus rep in response to a query about whether Davis is indeed out. Awaiting comment from Davis, who has been gracious to DFW.com throughout this whole thing.)
UPDATE: Davis has just posted about his exit on his Marksworld blog. The post is lengthy and heartfelt, but for me, these are the key paragraphs:
"I received word this morning that regarding my status with them, they are 'moving in another direction.'
"As will I."

BTW his successor, Ben Ferguson, looks like he's abt 17.
never cottoned to Davis. All of the pomposity of Rush with none of the humor.
I think Cumulus has taken over a couple stations in DFW. There are quite a few changes in the radio market here.570 KLIF now plays promos that refer to it’s sister station WBAP.Several talk hosts and shows on 570 are now gone, Laura Ingraham is no longer on WBAP at night. IMO there is nothing worth listening to on DFW radio in the way of talk except Rush, Hannity, Levin and the over night( Midnight-5am) guys on WBAP.. Even Coast to Coast (former Art Bell) show is no longer in the DFW market.

Does this mean he won’t be filling in for Rush anymore? Any time Mark subs for him I turn it off.
The Cumulus domination is not a good thing at all. I’m not sure what the answer is for free mkt guy...don’t want Big Bro to step in regulate but where’s the competition? This is a huge, top five mkt and it is doing poorly overall, revenue-wise. These certainly are not the salad days for radio, which is, by far, my favorite medium- next to Miss Cleo, of course.
And he sucks too! Big time!!
Au contraire, I expect more subbing for Rush.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHH!
It’s really strange now that Cumulus has the big 3 AM stations in DFW, KLIF, The Ticket and now WBAP......I never thought that day would come.
When I hear the words ‘Mark Davis’, I reach for my remote.
Davis always got on my last nerve. Guess he stepped on his richard and wouldn’t take the money they threw at him.
See ya Mark, wouldn’t wanna be ya.

I used to switch between The Ticket and Jeff Bolton on KLIF during my morning drivetime......it sucks they got rid of Jeff, I liked him.
DFW Coast fanatics should use KLBJ or KFI internet radio streams. I bought a Logitech Squeezebox internet radio and am very satisfied with it.
Even though I dont live in Dallas I would listen to Laura's show over the net in the evening. Laura's show is on a Salem Oregon station from 9pm to midnight eastern time if you would like to listen to Laura at night.
