Three 15 round magazines. One in the weapon, two on the belt. That is a fairly standard ammo load out. The problem is the time gap between round 45 and round 46 tends to get a bit long. Largely because it involves a run back to the station.

I suppose you are both right. I thought high capacity magazines were illegal (sarcasm). I keep 4 full clips of .45 for my XD in the house but never travel with anything but the "compact" clip (13 rds).

I'll bet he gets some ribbing from his fellow boys in blue about using all his ammo and having to start throwing rocks at the perp.

Or like one of the other posters said he just got out his backup gun.

One thing i didn't see mentioned in the story is cover. If the perp had good cover it could explain the whole story. The cops know help is on the way so all they are worried about is that the guy stays where he is and doesn't get a shot at them. So every time he sticks an arm out they send thee or four rounds his way to dissuade him from coming out any further.

It is pure speculation on my part, but it fits the situation because ...
1) Lots of rounds fired, but most just hit the cover.
2) Those that do hit are hitting in the arm or leg so getting hit 14 times and not going down starts to make sense.
3) Time is on the cop's side. The perp is pinned down and not going anyplace. He will either bleed out or SWAT will finally show up. No reason to risk getting shot by closing in for a better shot.
