Eek. I love my cats. I would be desolate if this happened to any of mine. Fortunately, none of them hunt.

It’s likely a parasite.
Parasites are known to change the personality and behavioral changes.

I wonder if it's some kind of prion disease, like BSE?

Some poster here once posted the thought that Toxoplasmosis could be responsible for left-wing idiocy...
I kind of liked that idea.
As you may well know, toxoplasmosis is spread through cat feces and when rats or mice catch it, it makes them seek out cats as they find the smell of cat urine very attractive. This results in them getting killed and eaten by the cat which then picks up the disease and spreads it forever after via its feces.
Millions of people are infected with this pathogen and we do not know the effect, since the pathogen changes the brain activity of mice and rats to become irrational, perhaps it could have an irrational influence on human behavior...
It would be interesting for someone to do a psychological profile on people carrying taxoplasmosis.

prions? Something related to the spongiform encaphalopathies like "Mad Cow" or CJT?
IIRC, there was a fast-acting variant in the UK that some humans got.

Men who don’t like cats should be exterminated from society. I would love that..
