In Czechoslovakia (1989) I saw brilliant colored smoke plumes
spilling from factory stacks and beautiful old marble
statuary from Baroque times so eaten away by acid rain
as to be barely recognizable. The rain stings on the face
due to the acid content. I also saw where hazardous chems
and oil were just dumped by the roadside. This in Bohemia,
a lush and beautiful province. In North Moravia mining has
turned the landscape into a moonscape.
