When the Dallas Stars won the Stanley Cup my cousin knew one of the players at the time. The player came to visit my cousin and had the Cup with him. He got a picture of his oldest son, then less than a year old, sitting in the Stanley Cup. Cool memento for the rest of the kid’s life!
My totally irrelevant comment was in regards to “bunkerhill’s” comment “Oh, that`s just a TBF torque trim tab.”
The aircraft in the photo in Post #5 is a TBF/M Avenger, which had a radial engine producing 1900 hp and loads of Torque. A third of one wing shot away was about what was required to counteract the torque & “P-factor” (propeller) from that powerful an engine. Ergo the “TBF torque trim tab”

Soooo glad she didn't drop it ..... when you think about it - its pretty amazing they allow it to travel around and be held by so many - my first re-action was a smile, too. But then I read about the father and tried to imagine how he must have felt.... poor old dad!!!

I only understood part of it as well.
But I know the reason for the knowledge of those who do and we all should be thankful to them.
A hearty “Thank you” to those men and women who gave us the luxury of being ignorant of the details necessary to operate such machines so we all could live a peaceful normal life.
