In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
macaronic \mak-uh-RON-ik\ , adjective
1. Composed of a mixture of languages.
2. Composed of or characterized by Latin words mixed with vernacular words or non-Latin words given Latin endings.
3. Mixed; jumbled.
noun
1. Macaronics, macaronic language.
2. A macaronic verse or other piece of writing.
Example sentences:
The tradition is even more significant in Folengo's Italian works and especially in his macaronic writings.
-- Mikhail Bakhtin, Rabelais and His World
The macaronic mode swivels between different languages. I believe Beckett chose French against English for similar reasons to those of Jean Arp in selecting French against German.
-- W. D. Redfern, French Laughter: Literary Humour from Diderot to Tournier
The journalistic multiplicity of voices found in the Magazine corresponded with the poetic multi-vocality of Fergusson's macaronic compositions, texts that combined elements of neo-classical English and vernacular Scots diction.
-- Ian Brown, The Edinburgh History of Scottish Literature
Etymology:
Macaronic is related to the word macaroni. Specifically, the pasta is named after the Southern Italian dialect maccarone, which was also associated with a mixture of Latin and vernacular languages.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
i follow him too, he’s a hoot!
Who leaves a country packed with ponies to come to a non-pony country?
The Stanley Cup isn’t platonic
And each coach speaks in terms macaronic
“Hit him in la bouche”
“Knock him on his tush”
It’s polyglot, stereophonic
And what is macaroni?:
Someone who stuck a feather so far into his hat that it penetrated his brain.
The ineligible poser RINO:
"Oh my Me! That macaroni is just the right size."
After which, many a proud gentleman had been heard singing, "Yank my doodle, it's a dandy!"
LMAO at how masterfully you worked all of that in together there!
LOVE that! A+ for you. My team won last night, no thanks to the refs who went batcrazy with Bettman in attendance. They called 14 penalties in all.
A+ for you!
Meanwhile, there was nary a whistle in the Pens-Flyers matchup. No penalties at all in the first period. I think the Pens ended up with 4 power plays.
La plupart de sa ki pase für macaroni in fama aint nuthin but baloney!
i was STUNNED to get up and see the Pens lost last night, after such a stellar start! i went to bed it was 3-1 Pens and the Flyers looked like CRAP, got up this AM and saw the flyers won it and was floored.
Total of 17 penalties when all was said and tallied.
Yeah, we weren’t too thrilled either. The first period was a little too easy and I give the Flyers credit for keeping coming.
The OT winner was pathetic. Two Penguins were standing there looking at the puck as the Flyer came up and knocked it in.
On the news last night, after the weather, the anchor said “Coming up more on the Pens-Flyers game. Stay tuned anyway.”
A for you and welcome to WFTD!
