I wanna lodge a protest over the southern rotational velocity advantage. We’ll never get a launch in the north at this rate.

And while I’m at it I may as well complain about the fact that I’m not allowed to see Alpha Centauri from here. It just ain’t fair.

The proposed launch site would be used “to launch orbital and suborbital launch vehicles from a private site in Cameron County in southern Texas,” according to the FAA’s notice of its intent to prepare an environmental impact statement. All launches from the proposed spaceport would fly east over the Gulf of Mexico, the document said.

Given the chaos on the Mexican border, this might prove a big problem for SpaceX to choose this location. SpaceX should consider moving up towards Kingsville instead. Overflight of Padre Island at that part wouldn’t be much of a problem, since it is uninhabited and remote.
