People often confuse “quite” with “quiet”. I see it on the internet, but hear it less often in speech.
They’ll write or say, “Silence! Please be quite!” One wants to ask, “please be quite what?” The word “quite” is an adverb meaning “totally” or completely”.
Another common mistake is to use “should of” instead of the correct, “should have”. “I should have gone home.” It probably stems from the sound of the contraction, “should’ve”.

LOL At least I get to laugh at myself a break from cursing out Obama and Holder.

My current favourite pet peeve, found everywhere: The past tense of the verb
to lead is
led. It's not
lead - if it rhymes with Fred, it's the metal that permanently impairs your cognitve ability if you ate paint chips as a child, leading inevitably to frequent language blunders as an adult. Short version:
to lead does not work like
to read.
Another on I hear frequently, though not necessarily on FR: hone in on. To hone is to sharpen a knife edge or razor blade. You mean home in on, i.e. to proceed toward a specific target; or, figuratively, to get straight to the main point. Think homing pigeon.
That is all. Sieg heil, grammarians!

I’ve noticed many posters will not add an “s” at the end of a word ending in “ist” to make it plural. For example: “Those feminist are so annoying.” I see it again and again!
