With Santorum suspending his campaign and reality staring us in the face...
With the voters of the remaining primaries given fewer choices....
With Newt not able to gain traction (sadly)....
What is left for us?
Sitting home is not an option for me.
Perhaps if FReepers nation-wide were to contact and pester the slate of delegates in their respective states to break away from their "commitment" and deny Romney a first ballot victory.
Of course, the remaining states could still vote for Newt or Ron Paul and deny Romney the magic number.
But barring that, the only alternative I see is:
MUTINY!!!
Draft Sarah Palin or Scott Walker.
Because picking a new candidate at the last minute worked so well for Illinois Republicans in 2004 ...
I’d rather see a mutiny in Congress against all those that are attempting to ruin our country.
Helping RP win Texas would certainly like the country club R Establishment know that Romney is a dead candidate walking.
“I’ll take Who The Hell is Alan Keyes for $100, Alex”
I cannot they are really denying half the country a say in the primary process. That alone should be causing a boycott to rise up.
RP = big NO for me.
Kook. I will not support a racist kook.
I would too but that means a very good chance of Barry winning with the repubs split.
I hope and pray for a mutiny. That way, I might actually be able to check a block in the portion for president.
Right. Because some kind of plan to take the nomination away from the candidate who got far and away the most votes is not only feasable, it’s a great way to unite a majority to defeat Obama.
Either that or get 10,000 of your closest friends to resettle with you in a battleground state in time to legally vote from there.
Romney wasn’t my first choice ... Gingrich, Palin, Cain were my favorites (not in that order).
But voters are voting for Romney. Who are the voters? Maybe there are enough of them to beat Obama in the general election. That’s all we should care about.
He isn’t racist, and while I don’t support all of RP’s positions, I would like to see Mittens embarrassed.
Don’t give up yet. Newt could be able to gain traction.
At least one (or more) thing Newt has with some commonality with the Founders is tenacity. To remain driven, in spite of all the flak he has gotten from Mitt’s camp, tells me he beleives in what he’s saying.
The Romneybots on FNC, Dredge, etc are working overtime to convince us that Mitt’s got it in the bag, when he does not yet.
In my dreams.. (That’s so y’all can say in your dreams! and I can say yup, that’s what I said...
The first ballot is held. No one gains the requisite votes for nomination.
Our Lady of Wasilla gives a speech that wows the crowd. About half-way through, chants of run, sarah, run are heard under the applause.
About three-quarters of the way through, no applause is heard, because every pause is filled with RUN, SARAH, RUN!
She doesn’t get to finish the speech the text is later published in her Presidential Memoirs because she can’t get a word in with all the RUN, SARAH, RUN!
She steps away from the podium, and the MC gavels the place into some sort of order at least to the point when the PA can be heard over the crowd. This takes 38 minutes. Two major networks cut away...
..and miss the part where the MC places the name of Sarah Heath Palin into nomination; the chairman of the Alaska delegation seconds, and the nomination is made by acclamation.
In my dreams... but I’ll be waiting.
I cannot see an advantage in supporting Romney. When McCain chose Palin for the VP slot, I decided I could hold my nose and vote for him. This is different.
Santorum was the McCain of this primary. Or maybe he was the Huckabee. But Romney is still Romney - the worst possible Republican candidate. Could he beat Obama? Maybe. But who cares? We have to pick between two men, either of which will continue the destruction of our nation - one intentionally, the other inadvertently. How about none of the above?
Romney is worse than Obama in some ways. They both secretly support gay marriage while claiming otherwise. They both are big government promoters. They both appoint leftist judges. The problem with Romney is people will wrongly blame conservatism for whatever he does, even if it is socialistic. It will be harder to stop some of the leftist agenda when Republican legislators are pressured to compromise with socialistic ideas pushed by a Republican president.
Newt is right to fight him all the way to the convention. If the RNC is too stupid to represent the conservatives, maybe it will be time to draft Donald Trump and a solid VP pick to run as independent (not third party).
I don’t think this would split the Republican vote. Romney would split the moderate vote. Conservatives would abandon the RNC. And many disenchanted Obama supporters would vote for an alternative this time around or stay home.
