Talk about retarded. How would they react if the NYC subway went to distance-based fares instead of that flat fare, which since the introduction of the Gold Metrocard included a free transfer to any city bus route? Also, it's not like the subway still has parlor cars; those haven't been around since the subway first opened . . .
