I reversed it (three vodka to one gin with a small dash of lillet) and it was quite good; a little gin flavor without the trainwreck the next morning...

why did they go from the recipe given in the book to the now iconic, "Vodka Martini , shaken not stirred"? Was it a desire to avoid becoming an advertisement, or was it simply simpler for Connery to say?
These days, they'd probably have Bond order from the dollar menu at McDonald's if they thought they could get paid for product placement.
