President Barack Obama will provide a special introduction to USA Networks airing of the 1962 film adaptation of Harper Lees novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Saturday at 8 p.m.
Im deeply honored that President Obama will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of To Kill A Mockingbird by introducing it to a national audience, Pulitzer prize winner and famously media-shy Lee says. I believe it remains the best translation of a book to film ever made and I'm proud to know that Gregory Peck's portrayal of Atticus Finch lives on in a world that needs him now more than ever.
The film stars Peck as a lawyer in a small Alabama town who takes the tough case of a black man accused of raping a white woman. Told from the point of view of the attorney's daughter, the novel is heralded as one of the first to portray Americas race issues frankly and remains on many schools mandatory reading lists.

If Atticus Finch were alive today - he would be George Zimmerman’s lawyer.
And really - isn’t that all you need to say?
I agree with you 100%. The movie is the typical stereotypical slander of the South and Southern Whites. It is the same old story repeated over and over to near infinity by the media.
I despise it and all the other libelous retreads. No Black is ever guilty in the movies and no White woman is ever raped by a Black man. She is always lying to cover her desire or whatever crime she is supposed to have done.
I wish someone would just offer the HOMOPOTUS a talk show.
Maybe then he’d leave us alone.
Just put the narcissist in front of a camera.
Atticus Finch never was alive. It is a novel.
(Of Hollywood Communist propaganda!)
They were cousins -- or relatives of some sort.
There's a theory that he actually wrote Mockingbird and she wrote In Cold Blood.
She helped him with the research and probably they read each other's books through before publication.
Another chance for him to do more race baiting?
Yes, right now my tolerance is at an all-time low.
When I first moved to Garden City, KS I had 30 days of temporary housing. I was in no real hurry to find a place as I was making money on the temporary housing.
I discovered I was staying in the same Motel where Truman Capote and Harper Lee stayed while writing “In Cold Blood”.
I later saw where Capote said he was almost normal until he spent all that time in Western Kansas. I personally doubt it.
Who are they gonna get to introduce the documentaries of the Great L.A. and Chicago Riots?
George Wallace?
David Duke?
Robert Byrd?
Note to self: Avoid USA Network for a bit...
Not being a NASCAR aficionado, I missed that.
Are there any Youtube videos of the great event?
Mrs Sparky works with children like this, she gives them a time out.
Will he reveal that it reminds him of his own book, in that neither celebrated author actually wrote them?
I hate that damned agitprop crap
Maybe O’Dumer should do the introduction as Duval’s character, Arthur ‘Boo’ Radley , did and stand MUTE!
I’ve seen where Duval doesn’t think well of the Messyiah.
Word on the street is that she didn’t really write it just like Obama and JFK didn’t write their own books.
Unplug your cable and don't pay for television anymore. It just feeds the beast of liberalism.
I unplugged altogether 5 years ago and have never had to endure an Obama televised speech since his crowning in February of 2008 (when the media dumped Hillary and got a thrill up their legs for the clean cut articulate black man who could sell Socialism without ever mentioning the S word).
Al Sharpton must have been too busy to host this.
