A nightclub in Montgomery, Ala. is raising eyebrows by hosting a Food Stamp Friday party on April 6 that seems to glamorize life on the federal governments food assistance program.
An invitation for the April 6 party obtained by The Daily Caller tells patrons of the Rose Supper Club in North Montgomery that the Friday night cover charge will be just $5 if a food stamp card is shown upon arrival.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) was designed for Americans living at near-poverty levels.
According to the flashy, postcard-size flier advertising the party, there will be free shots at the door. The announcements artwork mimics an Electronic Benefit Transfer card, the debit card used by Americans to redeem their SNAP benefits.
Glamorizing federal assistance bothers some who have seen the posters.
I just dont understand how they are promoting this without anyone saying anything about it, Stephanie Pope, a Montgomery resident who has seen the fliers in gas stations, told TheDC.
Orlando Rogers, an employee who answered the telephone at the Rose on Thursday, confirmed that the Food Stamp Friday party is taking place at the venue next month.

Maybe they’re exploiting the “food stamp chicks are easy” angle?
$5 cover charge....Shot drinks are $19.95 each.
Get out of Alabama as fast as possible.
They are trying to be compassionate. The cover charge is only $5 if you are in poverty and on food stamps. How thoughtful of them!!
Interesting that some are concerned they are “glamourizing” federal assistance such as food stamps.
Well, nowadays, we glamourize all sorts of things which people used to be ashamed of or try to keep hidden. Among those are homosexuality, out of wedlock birth, being on public assistance, being in a street gang, dropping out of school, not having a job and not even looking for work.
In a world in which we glamourize so many negative behaviors, it’s not surprising that they would have an event geared towards the food stamp crowd.
They would only spend money on advertising to customers who will drop some serious cash in their bar.
