It is impossible to just walk into the place to pick out a shirt and tie that is reasonably priced. As soon as you walk into the place, you are set upon by a sales associate (usually a young woman) who insists upon laying out on a long table various shirt and tie combinations that are exorbitantly priced.
As a result, you end up paying for $80 shirts and $40 ties when all you wanted was just a basic shirt and tie. They actually make you feel like a cheapskate if you ask for something a little cheaper as they will say that that color or pattern "does not flatter my hair color" or some such nonsense. Before you can even say anything else, sports jackets, trousers, belts, and shoes are introduced into the mix and suddenly you are in the dressing room getting fitted for suits and trousers you had no intention of buying.
I'm going to buy my next shirt and tie online.
I have an on-off switch on my shoes.
Death to the homo running-dog haberdashery lackeys !
Same works for fragrances when a man is the buyer either for himself or for the lady in his life....and Jewelry.
It's usually and ego thing for a guy....and woman sales people will take advantage of that....especially in a commissioned area. It's generally seen in younger woman that to give the man attention, eye contact, be sweet, appeal to his masculine ego and his wallet will naturally fall open.
Just the way it is.
