I wish I had the exact quote, but Booker T. Washington once said there will be those within the black community who will profit greatly from the blacks always being in a victim status, and will work to keep them there. Can we think of anybody like that?
I just finished his autobiography, “Up From Slavery”, last week. A truly impressive story about a brilliant man who truly “worked his way out” of hopelessness and gave untold thousands REAL hope and change. The children of Booker T. Washington are the Thomas Sowells and Walter Williamses and Bill Cosbys of today, not the rece baiters.
The other night, I came across a TV show on PBS. A person (perhaps host of the show) was in charge of tracing the family trees of a few adult black men including one of the Marsalis brothers. After conducting the research, he asked what percentage of black/white/native American each considered himself. When the results were made known, and each person was found to have white ancestry, one person said “Next time I am stopped by the police for driving while black, I will tell them I am white.” Marsalis said he wanted to knock on the doors of his white relatives to see their reactions, said to laughter. Sad that the immediate reactions would be as such.
