Did they find the shooter and decline to charge him?
That is the crux of the protests - not that a supposed white (he is Hispanic) killed a black - but that a boy was killed and nobody was charged.
I don’t like making things about race - but sometimes you can’t help but think there might be a thumb on the scale of justice. I am less sure that if a white 17 year old was shot dead in a confrontation of this type that the shooter wouldn’t be charged.
I see a lot wrong with this sentiment. It seems clear to me, as far as this is possible, that race was just not the driving factor in the actions of the police. What seems wrong to me is the idea of black/white as two equal but opposite entities, like matter/anti-matter or something. Just switch and compare. But look at the background of the two. Where are you going to find a black self appointed neighborhood watchman licensed to carry who devotes his time to detecting and preventing break ins at a gated community and pesters the police with 911 calls in the process? For the converse case, I'm sure there are plenty of white gangsta types, but is this guy going to try to take down the black guy with his fists? It's just hard to picture. You know that's a whole black thang, right? slugging down random people with one punch and exalting in it? It's a game.
As per my other remarks, these shooters didn't call 911 BEFORE the shooting then wait around for the cops to arrive so they could surrender themselves and offer complete cooperation.
