Yes, I remember Robert Carlyle in "The Full Monty", but my best memory of him is in the BBC TV series "Hamish Macbeth" where he played a small village police constable in Scotland.

Hey, What was wrong with Muffet?
I’m surprised Muffet wasn’t played by a one-eyed, three-legged, female lesbian Shih-Tzu who was half-canine, half-Cylon in the new “re-imaging”.

Ronald Moore is probably kicking himself for not thinking that one up.....
