Several years ago I read a story about the nuggets sold to school lunch programs. To reduce price they used lower grade chicken.
Some of the chickens were diseased and had puss filled sores which were ground up into the nugget meat. Apparently they were confident the cooking process would kill the bacteria in the puss.
