I think they should change the jury system- they spend millions on this idiotic procedute- just let people apply and pay them a salary like a job.

They would be vetted by a panel of prosecutors and defence attornies just to make sure they are not drooling idiots, and then whenever there is a trial they get selected AT RANDOM and that’s the jury you get.

It could also be a volunteer (for pro bono work) for existing attorneys

There are many sane methods better then how we do it now.

No more of these weeks of ‘picking’ juries

Correct. I've never tried to be excused, though I always am and, lately, have been telling them up front that I will be excused anyway, so why make me inconvenience my employer? I dress in casual business attire and act normally.

But I do always carry one of the Gideon New Testaments which fit perfectly in the front shirt pocket. While I do not consider myself a bible thumper, I find that it is helpful to have something sane to read when you are stuck waiting.

And then juries would be packed with ideological leftists, because those are JUST the people who would disproportionately apply.

I work for a place which pays me my salary if I'm on jury duty, so I don't mind at all. Got called once in 6 years, didn't get to sit on a jury. The way it got explained to me is that, at trial time, if there aren't enough jurors then the defendant gets his charges dismissed. So if there ARE enough jurors, the defendant accepts the plea bargain at the last minute, and the jurors go home.
