Interested in the HDTV ping list?
Please Freepmail me (freepmail works best) if you would like your name added to the HDTV ping list,
(approximately 375+ freepers are currently on the HDTV ping list).
The pinged subjects can be HDTV technology, satellite, cable, OTA HD reception (Over The Air with roof top or indoor antennas), Broadcast specials, Sports, Blu Ray/HDDVD, and any and all subjects relating to HDTV.
Note: if you search Freerepublic using the keyword "HDTV, you
“Colors looked quite similar on the two”
Minor point, but the colors ARE the same. It’s the resolution that’s different, and you won’t see much difference between 720 and 1080 on a tiny screen.
It’s when you interface with a TV one sees the difference.

Don’t have an iPad, but that caught my eye and was a tipoff the author of this piece doesn’t know wtf he’s talking about when criticizing that feature.
It seemed like the author had an axe to grind, don’t know why. I don’t see why Apple is at fault because 4G networks make you eat up data faster. Isn’t that the whole point?
NUTS!
Agreed. To my mind, the larger issue is what cell carriers rape us all for when it comes to data plans.
You have a smart phone? Data plan. You have a 4G tablet? Yet another data plan. Have a hot spot? Still ANOTHER data plan.
It’s freakin’ highway robbery.....not to mention that each of those data plans is limited to maybe a few gigs, tops, without incurring ridiculous overage charges (read: “theft”).
Somebody, somewhere, is going to offer a complete-package data plan tied to the USER/CUSTOMER.....NOT to the devices he or she owns. Whoever that is....should offer unlimited data as well.....and they’ll make a killing. It’s way, way past time to get past these ridiculously anachronistic data plan billing models.

Or maybe they aren't.

Don’t expect to stream movies. It’s only a matter of time before your cheap internet has a “cap”—like rural users. I watch the big stir over streaming TV and movies and shake my head, because I already have limited internet. College students expect the whole country to have internet access like they do on campus...won’t be there forever.
See my post. It’s just a matter of time. It’s going to be interesting when the kids don’t have their fast, free, infinite internet...we in the boonies already know which way the wind blows.
The vast majority of the nation’s population doesn’t have limited internet. That’s not an unreasonable request, especially given the supposed maturity of the WAN infrastructure in this country.
With the unbelievably rapid proliferation of wireless devices.....smart phones, tablets, et al....you’re talking about a highly competitive and lucrative market for provision of wireless access/services.
SOMEONE is going to do exactly what I suggested above; it’s just a question of who. Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, etc. are milking the cow for as long as they can, but even they know the market is very ticked off at this stupid requirement for a separate data plan per device. It’s highway robbery, and I guarantee you’ll see a lot of pressure on these providers from the likes of Apple, Motorola, Samsung, etc. who manufacture these devices and have a vested interest in seeing more people purchasing them....and therefore seeing “barriers to entry” (e.g. outrageous data plan costs) reduced or removed.
Koolaid drinkers untie!
Barring new technology, over the air bandwidth is a fixed supply, all of these new devices represents increasing demand.
The modern day “Golden Calf!”
I know. I'm writing this from my encampment in front of the Apple store on University Avenue in Palo Alto. I'm determined to be the first to snag one this time. I'm worried, though, that I'll be mistaken for an OWSer and catch diseases or get mugged.
from what i hear, "SIZZLING" would be a more apt description
The big providers are already talking about it. If there was a way to invest and make money on how dismayed the users are going to be--
