I like Elvis, been listening to him since in started in the early 50's.
However, on this particular song, I prefer Tom Jones' version over Elvis'.

Not Elvis.
Gong
I sing way better than whoever that was. Then again, I have a three octave voice.

Heinlein.. First thing I thought of. Can't remember the name of the book but the main character ends it by saving the crew of a ship and making up a poem as he did so, dying in the process. I suppose you can remember the title? If so please refresh my memory.

Not Elvis. You are correct, the guy singing is NOT Elvis. I could do better and I only have a 2.5 octave voice. 3 is great, 2 is usually considered adequate for a good singer.

Yep, should have remembered that title, but titles usually escape me, I can remember the authors and the text of the books but titles, for some reason, seem to get away from me.

Also, I always assumed the scene in Stark Trek III where Spock goes into the radiated chamber to repair the ship was stolen from the “Green Hills of Earth”. The only thing missing was Spock creating a song(or poem)as he was dying:)

This song was written and sung by the late Tex Ritter, father of the late John Ritter.
