NORTH STRABANE, Pa. -- A Washington County man fell victim to an online dating scam and lost almost $400.
According to police, the victim thought he was talking with a woman in Nashville, Tenn., on the online dating website Lust.com.
The 42-year-old man told police they arranged to meet in Pittsburgh, but she needed him to send her money through Western Union to pay for the flight. Police said the man sent the woman money, but she never showed up.
Its never a good idea to send any funds via Western Union to anybody you dont know personally, North Strabane Police Officer Jonathan Miles said. This type of thing doesnt surprise me. Like Craigslist, people can be anonymous online and use it to their advantage to lure people into this false sense of security.
According to the criminal complaint, the man wired money several times through Western Union, ultimately sending almost $400.
North Strabane Police said theyve handled one online dating scheme that was worse. A local woman sent over $5,000 to a man online.
A fool and his money are soon parted.
Anybody that stupid deserves whatever happens.
I’m guessing he wanted more than a date with a website named lust.com. Just a hunch.
Could have been much worse. I have heard some terrible stories. Sad but there are so desperate people due to Obama’s economy. I am not condoning the woman but these things have double and tripled since Obama becoming President.
My momma always said, “Stupid is as stupid does.”
Trust me, scams can happen even on FR with nothing to do about sex.I have had it happen to me and I know of others. Not all FReepers are what they say they are.
A randy fellow and his money are soon parted.
Sending $400 to a stranger he met on a website called lust.com? As a friend of mine would say, “He was thinking with the wrong head”.
“The 42-year-old man told police they arranged to meet in Pittsburgh, but she needed him to send her money through Western Union to pay for the flight.”

And she didn’t include “sweetheart, I love you so much that I need your credit card numbers for our private get-away to Hawaii”? Amateur..
Exactly. What an idiot. The site is for sexual hookups. Guy must have been desperate.

What a dope!
1. I would never be stupid enough to do this.
2. If I was stupid enough to do this and it was only $400 dollars I would shut up and not broadcast how really stupid I was.
Yep. Folks send way more money than that to religious and political scammers.
This had nothing to do with politics or religion. It was a freeper several of our local FReepers knew and even had him in our homes. but he scammed a couple of us out of about $1500.
Everyone knows you are supposed to meet at the top of the Empire State Building.
“Lust.com. “
Oooh...found the problem.
