——#4. Getting a Pet to Practice Being Parents
WRONG! In fact, I highly recommend that before any woman marries a man with the intention of having children buy her intended a puppy and watch how he raises it. If the dog is well-trained (however one wishes to define that), then it bodes well for being a good parent, if not then she should plan on being the sole provider of training for the child.——
I can’t disagree more....you are equating raising a dog with raising your own flesh and blood !!!
A puppy is not a infant or baby....as a man I can not describe the feeling of holding my newborn son for the first time...my entire world view changed that day....a new puppy is cute and adorable, but it’s still just a dog to be raised like any decent human being should
Your principle is sound, but actually, often the way a person handles an animal (especially from babyhood) gives some insight into what you can expect from them as a parent.
My sister was not so great at dogs and cats (all she had since babyhood). They’d get almost no discipline, end up being disruptive, pains in the butt. And this is just a year’s worth of work (a well-raised dog or even cat will be a breeze after babyhood). Imagine having a kid for a decade or more! I love Sis, she’s great, but she just doesn’t handle discipline well. Hence various problems with the children (it could be worse - some of it is genetics that they’re just overall nice, especially the 1s who favor our side of the family).
You missed my point.
I contend a man trains his dog in a similar fashion to the way he raises his children. It’s about his management style, his method of managing those under his care.
