Pets are a wonderful thing. No matter how sad or depressing your life may be, it's always just a little bit better knowing you have a loyal pet by your side.
But being a pet owner is a tricky proposition. Something about being able to "own" a living thing seems to drive some people to the point of madness. Crazy cat ladies don't earn that title because of their rational behavior and robust social skills, you know?

#1. Breeding In Negative Traits to Satisfy the AKC Appearance Standards

That's why 'breed specific laws' are centered around pit bulls...that's why they are banned from many MILITARY bases. They are 'just dogs'. The elderly women in my area don't head inside when they see a lab coming down the street...only the neighborhood pit bull.
Gee...I wonder why?
Amen. A pet is a 20-year commitment, in many instances.
Pet owners are worse than PETA or Tree Huggers. I have nothing but utter disgust for most pet owners. Many love their pets more than children, have opted to have pets instead of children, let thier pets poop all over the place spreading hookworm and whole host of parasites. This is no different than having livestock. Theier children are infected often infected with parasites, according to a recent study more that 14% of pet owners are infected with their pets parasites, even higher if the dog/cat sleeps in the bed. Many pet owners, in fact, a very high percentage don’t deworms their pets, or spade their pets.
Their dogs often attack and harm/kill small children, and older peeople as well.
Pets in America are now being fed gourme meals while people in the world pick through garbage dumps for food.
No, to me, the obsession with pets in this country is a sin, pet owners are perverted in that hold an animal in much higher respect than Man, who was created in the image of God.
There you have it, rage on you radical freakin pet lovers, come on, you know you hate everything I just said, how could anyone say those terrible things against your beautiful children, or, I mean pets ...
You may go on fearing all pit bulls, and I will go on loving them. I agree to disagree with you, FRiend.
I don’t fear pit bulls...I am prepared to defend myself against them. Maybe the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Army fear them; since they both ban pits from residential housing on base. You are more than welcome to love them, just keep them to home.
I talk to my dogs like they’re children but I agree with you. Societies that regard pets as children are going extinct.

I do the same...
Clean your room
Do the dishes
Take out the garbage
Let me see your report card
Time for bed
Wash your hands before dinner
Get off the phone
Shut the video game off

Sorry, I can’t participate on what would have been a fun thread
but for the ignorant ‘pit bull’ haters hijacking it.
Really, even my dog knows the proper spots to take a dump,
too bad some folks don’t have the same sense.
Yup & I also have to tell them to get off the Internet.
#1. Breeding In Negative Traits to Satisfy the AKC Appearance Standards
I saw a mongrel dog today whose lower jaw jutted out at least an inch or more from its upper. That is a negative trait if I ever saw one and it had nothing whatsoever to do with meeting any perceived requirement from an AKC standard. In fact, AKC standards severely fault, at a minimum, but usually disqualify an undershot jaw of that magnitude.
And just which breeds of dog have standards that require “negative” traits, anyway? In whose opinion is the trait negative? What makes that individual’s OPINION the last word in dogdom? Did the perceived negative trait already exist (sometimes for centuries) before the breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club?
Is the average pet dog bred strictly to meet its’ breed’s standard, or was it bred because its owner had a friend with a dog of the opposite sex, so they decided to have some cute puppies?
Your principle is sound, but actually, often the way a person handles an animal (especially from babyhood) gives some insight into what you can expect from them as a parent.
My sister was not so great at dogs and cats (all she had since babyhood). They’d get almost no discipline, end up being disruptive, pains in the butt. And this is just a year’s worth of work (a well-raised dog or even cat will be a breeze after babyhood). Imagine having a kid for a decade or more! I love Sis, she’s great, but she just doesn’t handle discipline well. Hence various problems with the children (it could be worse - some of it is genetics that they’re just overall nice, especially the 1s who favor our side of the family).
You missed my point.
I contend a man trains his dog in a similar fashion to the way he raises his children. It’s about his management style, his method of managing those under his care.
No I didn’t miss your pointer at all....
You simply cannot compare how a man treats his pets and his children....
I make sure my dogs are fed, watered, clean, healthy....that’s about it
For my children I would sacrifice my life for them....
Dogs are pets .... Children are our heritage....
It’s not about whether the necessities are provided, or whether they’re protected; it’s the finer points.
“Blaming the owner instead of the pit bull when it rips some innocent persons head off.”
No kidding!
You never hear anyone blame the owner when a beagle rips somebody’s face off.
oh, um....never mind
Good luck with kitty. We are having tick problems already so I am out in full force with spray and treatments!!!!!
