After heat rays, I’m seeing squadrons of 6’ quadrotors, armed with machineguns, programmed to hunt down and put all hominids in a given sector on the ground, motionless and cooling off.

Tactically, no. Strategically, yes. They gotta make them things somewhere. Gotta fly them from somewhere. Gotta maintain them somehow. Gotta fuel them. Gotta communicate with them. The care and feeding of such devices are the strategic weak point.
