According to the Associated Press, with the fear climate change could wipe out the country, leaders of the Pacific island nation of Kiribati are considering moving its population to Fiji. Kiribati President Anote Tong and his government Cabinet have backed a plan to purchase close to 6,000 acres on the island of Viti Levu in Fiji. Rising sea levels blamed on global warming are threatening to cover the island.
* The CIA World Factbook reports the country's population in July is estimated to be 101,998.

It may also be in danger of tipping over if too many more people move there. Hank Johnson should warn them of the danger.
This is so funny. They keep thinking if they pretend it seriously enough,, that it will be true. THE KING HAS NO CLOTHES!
NO islands are sinking!! And if they were,, wouldnt we notice it along ALL the beaches??
Crap! First Guam and now Fiji! When will this island tipping stop? What a travesty. We could use algore as a wedge I suppose.
The island wasn't sinking after all.
Come on up! There’s plenty of room in the hills of Fiji.
Bull Obama.
Very stinky, smelly bull Obama.
If by some chance those islands are sinking, it is more likely from settling of the extinct volcanic foundation the island is built on. It happens. They live in a dangerous place and should move regardless of climate change or whales passing gas and creating waves.
The article says that rising sea levels are contaminating their fresh water supplies.
Bull. The President of Kiribati admits that the sea level hasn't risen there hardly at all. The real problem is that with their population doubling in the past (roughly) 35 years, they're using the fresh water faster than the rainfall can replace it.
Well, yes they do. The whole Earth is constantly undulating and has so for billions of years. It is not the oceans that rise or fall, it is the ground the moves up or down. Always has been. Always will be. There is no arguing with gravity. Water seeks the lowest spot.
ALgore will be happy to pay for the move.
They have no data to back it up.
They aren't volcanic islands. They're coral atolls.
If they were volcanic islands, the high elevation point would be something more than ten feet above sea level.
The rise in sea level has been about a 0.5mm per year on average for the last several thousand years. I think that’s about a foot per 100 years.
In 2010 sea level dropped 6mm and it is still dropping!

Sea level still not cooperating with predictions

An ice age could start any time and if it starts now sea level will drop by 400 feet but I don’t know how fast. The Fijians will need at long ladder, rope, or elevator to get down far enough to reach the ocean!
This is all theater to get money somehow, like when the Maldives cabinet convened underwater to show the world what it will be like when their island goes underwater. They are just angling for a piece of the global warming action.
Their islands may be sinking if they are no longer over a hot spot in the mantle. More likely their problems are due to the population doubling since 1973.
I’m still waiting for the inhabitants of Long Island to evacuate.
I forgot to mention that sea level used to be about 20 or 30 feet higher than present day about 6,000 or 7,000 years ago when the Holocene temps were at their highest.
The village idiots must be running Fiji at the moment!
There's 25 mm per inch.
