The 49ers were so close to the SB, I’d think tearing up the team to pay Manning’s huge salary under the cap might be a huge risk.
I’ve had the same back problem as Manning, I can’t imagine getting clobbered by 260 lb guys running 18 miles an hour.
But he’s a very smart guy, and free to do what he likes.
Whomever gets Peyton will not have to pick up his salary as it is now. They will start one from scratch that is sure to have plenty of protections for the team if he cannot play and be effective.
