In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

phatic; adj.

denoting speech used to express or create an atmosphere of shared feelings, goodwill, or sociability rather than to impart information: phatic communion.

Etymology:

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Just got home from a job and doing a bid-

Those people Obama manages to fool
With all his phony phatic speeches
Are mostly mindless synchophants
And some other assorted leeches

They howl in fear at any cost-
They can’t live without a crutch-
And some 31 year old law student
Needs free contraceptives so much

She doesn’t want to be called “slut”
And she wants her stuff for free-
Maybe the skank should just be frank
And charge an appropriate fee

I’m sorry to hear about Darby-that is a really premature death for a Jack Russell, isn’t it? I’m glad he had a happy life, though.
