Why does this President think it’s phatic advice for the Israelis to revert to the 1967 borders and surrender their arms to enemies at their borders? Is it his Islamic upbringing?

not sure why my etymology didn't copy:

1923; probably < Greek phat ( ós ) spoken, capable of being spoken (verbid of phánai to speak; compare prophet) + -ic; coined (in phrase phatic communion ) by Bronislaw Malinowski

I agree with you 100%. I don’t use those words because I think they’re very offensive.

I don’t subscribe to “PC” or anything like that. I just try to temper my own speech patterns to be dignified. I don’t think that “four letter words” are a “sin”, but I don’t use them because they sound vulgar and ignorant. There are other, more effective ways to express oneself without them, and sometimes it is far more devastating to the opposition.

Perhaps that is why Rush apologized. Maybe he was, in effect, apologizing to HIMSELF for using a vulgarism, when it would have been much more effective if he had used a witty, devastating bonmot to describe this person. I guess his use of the word “slut” was a fluke.

Everyone must conduct themselves as they are comfortable doing. i have zero problem with four letter words and i do not think it connotes a lack of vocabulary to use them, as i know plenty of smart people with big vocabularies who can use them most effectively. i like language of all types and i think that salty language is no less appropriate, depending of course on the setting and your companions.

Well I can understand the setting and companions part.

After all, I have been a “serious” BIKER for 40 years! LOL!

I don’t condemn anyone for “salty” language. It’s just not my style, I guess.

in the legal community we deal in language as our stock in trade and there are just times when vulgarisms are called for ; ) it’s not for lack of knowing other words. Obviously not for use in briefs or the courtroom : )
