I'm sure he woke up, but perhaps not to your side. When I engage with someone who is a vocal leftist, I might play it the same way. When you talk with someone who is simply uninformed, getting in their face is going to have spotty success at best.
I happened to catch an episode of "Doomsday Preppers" tonight. While I agree with them on the need to be prepared and have a plan myself, they typically came off looking like idiots to the average person. Same thing with the occupy crowd. Even people who sympathy with their big picture see that way too many are nuts.
We need to win the day with sound and logical arguments. It's easy actually because the truth is on our side. If someone gets in my face I might just neutralize the threat before I even hear what they have to say.
