Is The IRS Attempting to Intimidate Local Tea Parties?
Right Side News ^ | February 27, 2012 | Colleen Owens

Exclusive:In January and February of this year, the Internal Revenue Service began sending out letters to various local Tea Party groups across the country. Mailed from the same Cincinnati, Ohio IRS office, these letters have reached Tea Party groups in Virginia, Hawaii, Ohio and Texas (we are hearing of more daily). There are several common threads to these letters: all are requesting more information from these independent Tea Parties in regard to their nonprofit 501c4 applications (for these types of nonprofit, donations are not deductible). While some of the requests are reasonable, much of them are strikingly onerous and, dare I say, Orwellian in nature. What are local Tea Partiers to think with requests like “Please identify your volunteers ” or “are there board members or officers who have run or will run for office (including relatives)”? What possible reason would the IRS have for Tea Parties to “name your donors ” when said donations are non-deductible? These are just a few of the questions asked by the IRS in these letters, and one cannot help but suspect an intrinsic threat encompassing all these demands. (see more letters below) The other question is the timing of these IRS letters requesting reams of copies and hundreds of hours of work and potentially thousands of dollars in accounting/legal fees.(all due in two weeks) Some of these Tea Party groups have not received anything concerning their nonprofit status since 2010 prior to these letters. (pdf files of IRS letters)

The author is creating a scandal out of nothing;

If he took the time to do minor checking he would find that the IRS requests two forms be filed:

Form 8871

Form 8872

These forms require the information that the author is citing that is being requested by the IRS.

This is normal and part of our laws and regulations for political organizations.

The Tea Parties should not be exempt.

Well, let me play devil’s advocate here...

Who says they don’t inquire to these organizations???

What is important is what they do , or don’t do as a result of the information they recieve from them...

We already know what they’d do with w juicy nugget of information from a local TEA Party organization...

The war is coming people...These premliminary skirmishes are just a taste of what will be coming...

Does anyone know what happened to the Richmond VA Tea Party request for a refund for its fees based on the Occupy non-fees and the subsequent audit by the city?

If we had a real president, he’d threaten to burn an Iranian warship.

Agree - especially with the amount of fraud that has tagged along with the TEA movement. Some of these TEA outfits did nothing but take your money and sell bumper stickers and license plate covers.

There’s one Freeper who regularly replies with “the TEA party is not a party - its not an official organization...”

The truth is - the TEA party really picked a poor name for their movement. Just using the word “party” implies that it IS a political party. That alone leaves it ripe for confusion(especially with the onus of internet “fund raising”).

And - trying to co-opt the “Boston Tea Party” aspect created an anticipation of some sort of revolution or revolt, or social disobedience. None of that seems forth coming...especially since OWS got moving. That sent the a lot of TEA partiers recoiling to their establishment roots.

The whole thing reminds me of a political version of “Waiting for Guffman”

These letters’ demands become a time vortex right before Super Tuesday and local elections in the next few weeks.

Back in February 2010 there was a thread about whether the Tea party was doomed because of a lack of "organization." FReeper ThePatriotsFlag had this to say......we should have listened to him.

Something special is happening with the Tea Party Movement of today. Of course people will try to gain control of it because it is a very powerful source of energy. But the concern that it is “not controlled” and therefore “doomed” is unfounded. It needs not be nor should it be confined ... to a leader, to an organization or to a specific plan. Such activity would nullify the greatness of what it has become to date and could grow to in the future. One needn’t worry ... one only need to join the energy, shun people who attempt its control and allow plans to be spur of the moment. With a leader, there is a target, with an organization, a counter-organization, with a plan, a thwarting of the plan. But as pure ENERGY ... nothing can stop it. Think of it as energy ... join it, and be a part of this historical change-making effort.

Just part of this totalitarian regime’s attempt to shut down any and all dissent.
