Does that mean a carrot is not a vegetable? It is also a root. I’ve been told it’s a root vegetable. As are radishes and onions.

I could be wrong but I have always had three classifications, vegetables, fruits, and roots.
Anything growing under the ground is a root. This includes all the ones you mentioned, including peanuts.
