Jack Haley, Jr. hit upon a brilliant idea. The producer of the 1979 Oscars telecast devised a special medley of hit songs the Academy never nominated. Steve Lawrence and Sammy Davis, Jr. would perform it at the ceremony. The Academys Music Branch protested, but when Haley and host Johnny Carson threatened to walk they relented.
A smash hit, the audience applauded Oscars Only Human throughout and treated the performers to a prolonged ovation.

Oscar is only human, and hes made some terrible mistakes over the years. From controversial wins to unfortunate slights to sins of showmanship, the Academy Awards have failed time and time again.

No that's "Shine" with Geoffrey Rush.
"The Pianist" was Adrian Brody hiding from the Nazis in wartime Warsaw.
I sort of defended "Chicago" here as harmless fun against people who saw it as symptomatic of social collapse.
But still, I don't think it was Best Picture material. IMHO, too much glitz and too little substance.
would you rather sit through a typical "Best Picture" Oscar winner, or
"Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear?"
I could barely get through five minutes of it.
“No that’s “Shine” with Geoffrey Rush.”
“The Pianist” was Adrian Brody hiding from the Nazis in wartime Warsaw.
Right, right, I DID have these jumbled up.
If you want a musical about societal collapse, it’s hard to beat “Cabaret”!
The Pianist was one of Polanski’s worst films. I’m shocked by the acclaim it got.
In any other year it probably would have won Best Picture.
"Tomorrow Belongs to Me" is still one of the most haunting scenes, ever.
It would have been better if Andzej Wajda directed it, if you haven't seen his "Katyn", it was a fantastic movie.
Is Nick Nolte doing the role as Dr. Gene Scott, because that’s exactly who he looks like.
