Oops. I apologize, it was not intentional. I saw the articles, and it seemed like a good idea at the time.
I have been craving a cherry phosphate, which I think I had those originals back in the 50s in NY, at a little soda fountain.
How I really do wish they’d bring back these old fashioned soda fountains, because with it we ordered these fabulous old fashioned hamburgers on buns...mmmm.
The closest I’ve found to the old style milkshakes is at a place called “Brewster’s” ice cream...they still use scooped ice cream and milk, not that soft serve stuff. I spurge (calorie-wise) every now and then and sneak one in.
Ah yes, Chapo’s Drug Store, Superior, AZ. Hamburger and a 5 cent cherry soda. Eat your heart out McDonalds, you may have destroyed the corner soda counter but you’ll never equal the taste!
He missed out on that “Lead us not into temptation” thing.

What will soda jerks become, when all of the ingredients in sodas are prohibited? Bartenders, perhaps, if they appreciate irony.
I’m still sad that the best ice cream parlor/soda shop in Chicago, the Zephyr, closed down a few years ago. I have very fond memories of the special occasions when we would go there throughout my childhood. After we went to the Rainbow roller rink, or ice skating at McFettridge Park, and it was a big spot to hit after high school dances for kids I hung out with that went to Lane Tech and Gordon too.
Mmmm... what I wouldn’t give right now for a Zephyr banana split, a Pineapple Shake, or perhaps, if I was up for a challenge the 10 scoop “War of the Worlds” sundae!
This is the same nut case that posted 18 pizza stories in 30mins one night, He loves flooding this website with nonsense, BS and hasn’t one intelligent thought or a 3 grade education.
BLOGGER Cherry phosphate was made with sweet, thick concentrated cherry syrup and "sody water." Back then, a quarter could get you a cherry phosphate (10 cents), a Superman comic book (10 cents), and 5 pieces of penny candy.

It brings to mind an ornate soda fountain, a white- jacketed soda jerk, and a precocious child clambering up a stool to a marble countertop, squawking, Hey, mister, gimme a phosphate! And is that the tinkly sound of a player piano? A cherry phosphate has always seemed wonderfully Capra- esque to me, even though I had no idea what was in it.
