Black cats are very affectionate, I’m not sure why. In my life, I’ve had about 2 dozen dogs and about a half dozen or so cats (dealt with oodles more of friends, family members’ etc.). Dogs in general are more affectionate than a cat, but it’s because they’re pack animals, and cats are not. Indoors, I’ll take a cat over a dog, any day. (Most/many dogs, for example, must roll in the foulest smelling substance they can find, it’s part of the hunting instinct, no thanks; while cats clean themselves to not smell when catching prey; woohoo). A dog jumping up on you is a sign of an improperly socialized animal (which I know some people like), but their standard level of affection is rewarding to people who like to have a lot of nudging, contact, etc. Cats on the other hand, can be trained all the same, but require a higher level of discipline and devotion in dealing with them. Like I said, I’ve had a number of both, many at the same time, so I don’t say one’s necessarilly “better” than the other, just different.

Regarding:
“Also nothing is cuter then when a dog’s tail wags so hard his butt moves back and forth.”

WRONG!:

I like cats better than dogs. It’s easier and less mess. I had a black cat named Spooky. Best cat I ever had. We used to play monkey in the middle and that cat would do some amazing back flips to catch the ball. I sure do miss him.

Funny that you mention dogs rolling in smelly stuff as a hunting instinct, I had never thought of that. It explains very nicely why my old dog, every time he we gave him a bath, would cry to go outside, and then immediately go rolling around in the grass. He needed to get that pretty shampoo smell off him so he could try and sneak up on the squirrels!

“Black cats are very affectionate...”

Funny you should say that!

We have our two still pretty new kitties who were both pretty scaredy when we got them.

After the loss of our beloved Holly we just couldn’t deal with the empty house so we decided to go get more kittys.

Since we had let Holly go out and it led tragically to her demise (hit by a car oy veh) we decided to get 2 so they could keep each other company INSIDE.

Hubby and I independently had the thought we wanted a gray cat, so we went in search of a gray female cat with a sister of any color as part of the bargain.

And we found 2 sweeties - one gray and one almost totally black, just a faint white “diaper”.

Lola (the gray) and Nikita (the black) were so shy I posted a vanity thread about them and got some good advice (thanks you guys!)

It’s a few months later and Niki is our little lovey, she gets moody but she’ll almost always let you pick her up, sit in your lap, sleeps in the bed, etc.

Lola (who is gorgeous, she has the sweetest movie star face, she’s like the Clara Bow of cats - see that’s how old I am!) is still sooooo scaredy. I’ve managed to pick her up about twice in three months.

Someone told hubby the other day that gray cats can be stand-off-ish like that.

So, I don’t know and I’m rambling on. But I’ve always liked black cats (and I’ve heard people do shy away from adopting them), it’s a root for the (excuse the expression) underdog thing maybe.

We love our two babies and they are getting quite comfortable with us.

I’m definitely a cat person, but I think hubby is still more of a dog person. Someday I hope to be able to get him a canine companion.

My best cats have always been buff-&-white. Seems to be a kharma.
