Consider a Remington 770. It comes in a variety of calibers including .308, 30-06, .223, 8mm etc. a quality rifle at a fair price. I have three in caliber .223, 30-06 and .270. I am happy with them. Click on the link to see it and specs Remington 770

CORRECTION: It is not available in 8mm. I meant to say 7mm-08 Remington and 7mm Remington Mag. It is also barreled in the .243 Winchester. The .223 is available in the 700 series but not in the 770.

Note: Due to advances in computer driven milling machines, Remington and all the other major manufactures of rifles can now turn out a very high quality barrel at a cost that is far less than 40 years ago when adjusted for inflation. It is good stuff!
