Science could never learn anything new if that werent the case if there were not always people who had what they believed was a better theory.
Einstein believed in the now discredited crustal displacement theory. It was outside his area of expertise but it was a widely accepted theory in the 1930s.
When he theorized that gravity bent light, he didn't try to crush those who tried to disprove it. He sat back and waited and others ended up proving him right. I suspect he would be quite pleased to find that even today there are people trying to prove him wrong on relativity.
