I buy a lot on fixed period same-as-cash deals, even though I always have the cash at the time of purchase. If anyone is dumb enough to give me no interest terms, I'm going to take them. The borrower just has to understand the rules.

The borrower just has to understand the rules. A bank with a decent online bill-pay service can come in handy here. Make sure the funds are on deposit. Then you can schedule payments to be made at specific times in the future, so you won't forget and run afoul of the rules.
