Saudi police arrested a 35-year-old local girl just a month after she was released and court officials said it was her choice as she refused to return to her father.
The girl, an assistant dentist, was first arrested because she left her fathers house and lived with her divorced mother, saying he had refused her marriage and that he had a big family from the second wife.
The problem began when a man came to the girls house and asked to marry her but the father rejected him. When she protested and said she would go to her mother, the father threatened to kill her if she leaves.
But she carried out her threat and went to live with her mother police later came and arrested her after her father reported her for disobedience, the Saudi Arabic language daily Sharq said in a report from the western Red Sea port of Jeddah, Saudi Arabias second largest city.
It said she was released after three months and handed over to her uncle but her father again insisted that she returns home.
Police then gave her a choice either to return to her father or go back to prison
the girl chose prison, the paper said, adding that relatives are trying to mediate a solution to the problem.
35 year old girl?
Another vivid example of why these people don’t mesh well with civilization.
I am surprised she wasn’t killed so that the “family” could maintain its “honour”.
When jail is safe haven what does that say about your family? Did not know 35 year olds in Saudi arabia are considered girls.
It sounds to me like the father planned on having the daughter’s paycheck to fund his large family with his second wife.
Or he is holding out for a higher bidder.
Could not care any less what those animals do in their own barbaric country. However, I do vociferously object to *any* sharia-law based practices that in any way conflict with US law no matter how seemingly benign, in the US.
Even the mere mention of “Sharia” as positive justification for defense in civil or criminal proceedings and/or binding basis for any portion of any contract should be treated the same way uttering the word “bomb” is treated at the airport. You lose/cede/are charged — even if you were only joking.
*******
This story is too funny for this reason:
Can you imagine the number of American parents who can't wait for their children to turn 18---not 35---- so that they can legally move out of their parents' home?
As many of us know, in many American homes, parents would get on their knees and thank God if their 35 daughter---or son----suddenly announced that she was tired of living at home, and so she wanted to find her own place. Yes sir.
mirse
What’s up with the “35 year old girl” thing?
Is this a third hand translation into english?
Unmarried 35 year old - girl
Married 12 year old - woman
Disobedience at 35? She’s an adult for Pete’s sake! She can do what she wants.
Talk about a backwards way of thinking.
