Real-life couple from 'The Vow' says it 'would have been nice' to see Christian references in film

Based on the love story of two devout Christians, the movie version of "The Vow," starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, strips the tale of its overt religious themes, which has some Christian reviewers concerned.

The film is based on the true life story and book, “The Vow” by Kim and Krickitt Carpenter, which draws heavily on that couple’s Christian beliefs and the power of God to heal and shepherd a marriage through difficult times.

This surprised me - not that Hollywood sanitized it, but that it was even a Christian story at all. You certainly didn't get that from the ads. This really bothers me. I hate it when Hollywood destroys a Christian story or book in order to keep decieving the culture on the power and influence of Christian values. I probably won't see the movie at all now. With "Soul Surfer" they didn't change it that much, and look how popular it was.

The worst is when they take a classic like Narnia and try to make it secular. Just think of how successful that series would have been if they had actually remained true to the book so many Christians adore.

Bad example. Soul Surfer made 43 million in it’s entire run. “The Vow” made 59 million in 5 days so far (as of Wednesday). My wife and I saw the movie and it is good. Go see it. It is a nice story.

Next they will produce a heart-warming story about the life of Mohammed. They will, of course, leave out any hint of Islam.

It didn’t cost that much to make Soul Surfer, and most Christians I know didn’t see it in theatres - they didn’t even know about it! - but quite a few of them bought the DVD.

I never heard of it until it hit Redbox, and a Christian friend on Facebook told how she bought it for her kids.
