Exuviate.

“When making whang leather from the hides of dogs, coons, ground hogs, etc. always scrap away the exuviate, (the flesh and fat) until the hide is smooth and clean. Cut the hide into thin strips for sewing horse collars and work boots for which it is oncommonly suited.”
